“He wonders if a few moments of utter and total joy can be worth a lifetime of struggle. Maybe, he thinks. Maybe, if they're the right moments.”
This is my first Marcus Sedgwick's book and I'm telling you is not going to be the last. I love how Marcus writes, It has a mood, a feel (the words) almost like they're alive (?) all seven stories are fantastic and have a creepy air to them.
the rating isn't higher because the editing was poor, I feel I was reading an arc (which I wasn't I can assure you) anyway, I hope the editing will be better for the next book. Edit: Eva Morgan wrote on twitter (04-28-14)"Just fixed a couple typos in LOCKED - if you bought it before today and you want the fixed edition, email me and I'll send you a free copy."
“Television is the perfect format to take the characters from this world and put them on a screen". “You couldn’t do it as a movie, since there wouldn’t be enough time to watch the metamorphoses of these characters. We’re very lucky to live in a time when television is pushing all the boundaries. There isn’t another medium out there that allows you to live with characters in such depth.”
- Eric Balfour.
I love how J. Nelle Patrick revives Russia, the splendour and the chaos, you can even breathe tension, but I think Nelle's words on the author's note are perfect to describe it all
"Every line in Tsarina leads to a single truth: that when you forget that those you disagree with are people, not just your faceless opposition, you don’t end up proving who is right and who is wrong. You end up with a body count".
The story of this book is so compelling, at first I wasn't into it because of the slave topic, but this isn't a book about slaves, it's about strategies, power (how to maintain it) and of course, about forbidden love.
The characters aren't flawless, they're human and seriously awesome, I really want to see them evolve. btw the cover art is gorgeous
